إن مغارة الحليب وفقا للتقاليد هي المكان الذي أرضعت فيه مريم العذراء الطفل يسوع، عندما كانت مختبئة من جنود هيرودس قبل الهروب إلى مصر. وهي مغارة غير منتظمة الشكل محفورة داخل صخر جيري لين أبيض اللون. ويعتقد ان قطرات من حليب العذراء مريم قد سقطت على الصخر الذي تحول إلى اللون الأبيض. ويبجل المسيحيون والمسلمون هذا المكان،  وقد عُرف عن هذه الصخور البيضاء بلون الحليب قدرتها على الشفاء، وزيادة غزارة الحليب لدى النساء المرضعات.
